4chanarchive - Source is 4chan. Every day is Repost Day.

derp? by capsized - 10/06/27 @ 23:13 EET

hey, just put a new little project into your tubes: derpderpderpderpderp.com or short derp5.
it is inspired by yeahyeahyeahyeahyeah.com which was already praised as the new chatroulette by some. so it's probably some hyped crap, but gave me the idea to do something similar, but just using the massive image archive that we've collected in the archive for the last 3.5 years.
basically it is a dia show of all images on 4chanarchive (420,000 of them). just go there and every 5 seconds there will be a new random image, press f11 for maximum pleasure. clicking the image will take you to the thread from where the image comes from.

less talk, more content by capsized - 10/06/20 @ 01:43 EET

yay, the frontpage just got 9000% more useful. it always bothered me that my gibberish always took most of the space on the frontpage. especially since the "news" is only updated every couple months and hardly contains anything of interest. hope you like it. because we all have to live with it now...
i keep saying this, but hopefully this frontpage change was the last change to 4chanarchive.org before version 2.0.

ps. if you wonder about the order in which the boards below are displayed: the first 6 are the most popular (read: most viewed) boards, the rest is then alphabetically ordered.
pps. the first 6 are not in order of popularity, i decided to put priority on boards with more original content.
ppps. i admit i cheated a bit. /r9k/ isn't actually among the top 6...

no, no limit by capsized - 10/04/20 @ 12:46 EET

just a short post to say that due increased visitor numbers (yay!) we are going to exceed our bandwidth quota for this month (by about one terabyte, which means tsha-tshing for our hosting provider, boo!).
i have therefore reactivated the 250 post per page limit on the thread pages and will follow if that helps at all. i hope this will only be a temporary measure and i will turn it back to 600 post per page in a few days.
remember that you can support our bandwidth bills by buying pixels. it's easy like 1-2-3 (or was that a-b-c?), just click the "buy a pixel today" link in the sidebar and follow the instructions. alternatively you could as well stop browsing the archive now and come back sunday...

update: 250 limit actually didn't have much impact. changed it back to 600. let's see how the bandwidth usage will develop the following months...

the shame(n) by capsized - 10/02/29 @ 11:48 EET

oh shame on me, totally forgot to mention the results of our reviewer search (deja vu?). the choice fell on smokey, and /gold/ regulars already know him as he is very actively responding to all your questions and inquiries (and doing it damn good i might add). so if you have any feedback to give, visit /gold/, participate in the discussions and we will surely read it (sometimes even respond).

i can take an hour on the tower of power... by capsized - 10/02/09 @ 00:13 EET

after quite some time without a messaging board, we have one once again: /gold/ if you feel like dropping us some comments but never wanted to write an email then check it out. it's not public but registration is ez. it's not public mainly because it's not meant to be a generic or random message board, but rather for ranting and giving feedback regarding archive related stuff. also, the public boards in the past got ran over everytime that 4chan died, so in those cases i find it better to use our server ressources for people browsing the archive rather than people bawwing when 4chan might come back.

the usain bolt of archives by capsized - 10/01/25 @ 21:42 EET

two news updates in one day? that is unheard of... but guess what... new boards? sure, we got new boards. /3/, /adv/, /lit/, /new/, /int/, /sci/ are all available for archiving now.

thanks to everyone who has applied for the reviewer position. we received more applications than ever before, which is awesome. so please do not apply anymore, not taking anymore applicaitons. the "chose one(s)" will be contacted soon.

it's that time of the year again by capsized - 10/01/22 @ 15:50 EET

we are looking for a new thread reviewer to join our team. with the schools/universities tightening again their grip around the necks of our staff, we are now looking for a helping hand to sift through the ... quality material that is archived here everyday. to apply, just send me an email, tell me something about yourself. mandatory information: a/s/l, how long you've been lurking 4chan, what are your favourite boards. it's an advantage if you have a gold account and been rating threads in the past (let me know your username), but it's not a must. we are looking for someone who would be ready to spend at least half an hour a day for reviewing.

le mega news post by capsized - 09/11/22 @ 23:23 EET

the 4chanarchive store is back, better than ever, so this calls for a special news post and here it comes...

the 4chanarchive store is back

and

merchandise designer wanted

le shop

olrighty, the store is back up, now powered by zazzle. i've reused the designs from the last shop, but besides that there are a lot of improvements to the previous store, like:

  • - now the designs are available on mugs and stickers, caps and stuff
  • - the zazzle store is available in the states (aka worldwide), uk, canada, new zealand, australia and germany which means you can order in your local currency and enjoy lower postage fees and delivery times. (most countries have a x-mas free shipping offer)
  • - ridiculous 60 different apparel options. choose from different t-shirt styles to longsleeves, ringers and whatnot.
  • - 30 days full exchange or refund if you're not happy.

like for the previous store, the designs have been created using high resolution images, which means this is not just the images taken from 4chan and uploaded to zazzle, but there is some work behind it to make them work as big t-shirt prints. (e.g. you need a 2000x2000 pixel for a design to look good on a shirt. meaning first need to transform your source image to a vector image file, so that when you to avoid artifacts when resizing. afterwards cleaning the image up and add transparencies where needed. also in many cases you cannot just use the same design for dark apparel as for light coloured ones. you see, it's not that trivial.)

le designer

while i'm able to make a technically nice looking shirt design from an existing image, i really suck at being creative (well, look at this website). so my wish for x-mas is to offer some more original looking meme related designs. this is where i need you guys'n'gals. make designs for the 4chanarchive store and you can earn yourself some monies. you can choose to be paid once off per design or get a share of the revenue.

  • - contact me via email with your ideas, drafts or even ready designs (you can watermark them if you like)
  • - designs must somehow represent 4chan memes or internet memes in general, but not mention 4chan, 4chanarchive, /b/ or any other board by name
  • - the final design must be jpg or png of at least 2000x2000 pixel resolution, or in svg format.
  • - commissions are only paid via paypal

i told you i was froody by capsized - 09/11/12 @ 23:23 EET

"oh.. uhh... whaaa?... what's that green now appropiately colored box thing there?"
small facelift on the frontpage, because i feelt like it needs more of these ... these ... how do you call them? ah, images! oh yeah, we are an image board archive after all... it looks far from perfect, well i'm not a webdesign wiz, it's just an idea, a draft version, but there might be more of these colorful boxes here someday. maybe even replacing lists on the right side? feedback? ideas? meet us on irc, tweet us @fourchanarchive or drop me an email.

also, something i totally promised to announce already a couple months ago, but totally forgot to do (sorry dude), we have a new reviewer: please welcome anubis to the team!

too much by capsized - 09/08/09 @ 20:50 EET

today we've increased the request limits a bit. it's nice seeing the popularity of the archive rising, at the same time having to wade through 20-25 archived threads every day to pick the best is getting quite difficult (especially when you miss a couple days). so we do what needs to be done and raise the bar a bit.
from today every /b/ thread requires 10 requests (previously 8), all other boards need 7 (previously 5).
let's see where this brings us and if further adjustments are required.

king of news by capsized - 08/15/09 @ 23:42 EET

first, a big "thank you" to all who have bought pixels so far, all your support is very much appreciated! if you haven't bought any pixels yet do it now to support 4chanarchive.

in other news, after a long time we (well, fidonk actually) have taken our time to analyse how people use ratings to earn cones to use the direct archival feature. the good news is, that there is only a few people using the feature to the extreme, but still some are misusing the current rules to spam the archive with their own threads. so, the even better news is that with today's changes those users should be affected, but the regular user shouldn't notice any big changes.
the changes are the following: you will need now 15 cones (instead 10) to archive a thread directly and you are only allowed to rate a thread every 2 minutes which still earns you one cone.

we are currently brainstorming ideas to improve the whole system among other improvements, but until then, the above rules are in effect.

i can tell by the pixels ... by capsized - 08/08/09 @ 00:35 EET

as some might have noticed, there was an issue with a banner that sometimes prevented the site to load. unfortunately that issue couldn't be fixed to our satisfaction by the advertising network, so we had to deactivate it.
yes, advertisements are bringing in the monies and the internets don't run on rainbows as we all know, so we are deliberately missing out on some ad revenue now. all just for _you_, our dear 4chanarchive visitor!

and that's why we need your monies. yep, no bullshit talking here, straight to the point, simple maths. keeping up the archive, paying rent for the new server, burns more money than all the ads currently make. and we came to the point where adding more ads would just be too much to bear.
now, see the new pixel ad on the left? you have a paypal account? been enjoying our reliable and fast server the last two weeks? good. now _you_ can help us directly.

support us now by purchasing pixel blocks. one block is just $1 and you can freely choose a picture and a link for it. the link can be your own website, blog, twitter account, favourite chan or whatever you feel like (except nimp.org).

meanwhile, we are working on much needed improvements and new features to the archive. it means rewriting most of the code, but it will be worth the effort. so many plans, so little time.

push '//', receive feature by capsized - 07/18/09 @ 22:43 EET

i'm not really a developer. i don't even pretend that i'd be one. however, i'm just nerdy enough to get excited when i can add a feature/fix a bug by removing two lines of code.
kenshin brought to my attention that you cannot download zips of a thread's images, if the thread is still active on 4chan. well, now you can. apparently very useful for threads from slo-mo boards as /c/ or /an/. (i'm not insulting, just observing that threads last longer there.) well, anyway, it's fixed now.

hang you from the heavens by capsized - 07/13/09 @ 06:06 GMT + 666

archiving is working again in the sense that it fetches all posts again, also those with images. however problems with the server remain so the archiving process might stall now and then. work in progress...

again as a reminder, follow @fourchanarchive on twitter to get the latest published threads and uninteresting news about the archive. (less of the latter, i promise).

delay, shmelay by capsized - 07/11/09 @ 00:03 EET

might have fixed the bug for archiving images with posts again. all hail regex. archiving is still not working 100% though, due to hosting quirks. maybe tomorrow.
i just noticed that this is the first bugfix in more than a year that i've deployed to this site...
